Apple is rolling out a new App Store subscription option that allows developers to offer lower-priced plans tied to a 12-month commitment. With this model, users can pay monthly while agreeing to a full-year subscription, giving developers more predictable long-term revenue.

Designed to Boost Conversions
This approach reflects how many apps already promote annual plans by highlighting a reduced “monthly equivalent” price. Presenting a cheaper monthly cost often persuades users to choose longer commitments, even if they’re initially unsure.
Standardizing Subscription Practices
By formalizing this model, Apple can set clearer rules on how subscription pricing is displayed. The goal is to ensure transparency and prevent developers from presenting misleading discounts or unclear cost structures.
Limited Availability at Launch
The feature will not be available in the United States or Singapore initially. In the U.S., this is likely due to ongoing legal issues related to Apple’s App Store policies. Singapore may be excluded because of its strict consumer protection and payment regulations.

Improved Transparency for Users
Before subscribing, customers will see detailed information about payment structures and cancellation terms. They will also be able to track completed and remaining payments directly in their Apple Account.
Billing and Cancellation Details
Although users can cancel at any time, they are still responsible for completing the full 12-month payment commitment. Charges will continue monthly until the subscription term ends.
Notifications and Reminders
Apple will send reminder emails and optional push notifications ahead of renewal dates, helping users stay informed about upcoming charges and avoid unexpected renewals.
Potential Risks for Users
While the model offers lower prices, it may also lead to unintended long-term commitments. Since subscriptions auto-renew, users who forget to cancel could be locked into another full year.
Developer Integration and Rollout
Developers can set up and test these subscriptions through App Store Connect and Xcode. The feature will roll out globally (excluding certain regions) with updates like iOS 26.5, iPadOS 26.5, macOS Tahoe 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and visionOS 26.5 in May.
