The One Rule That Actually Matters: Send the Password Separately

A password only adds real protection if it isn't traveling alongside the link. If you email the link, text the password. If you message both, use two different messages sent a little apart. The goal is that anyone who intercepts one doesn't automatically have the other.

When to Also Use a One-Time Link

For files meant to be opened exactly once, like a signed agreement being delivered for the first and only time, pair the password with a one-time download link. That way, even a valid password stops being useful after the first download.
